Women are a significant part of our consumer base and workforce. The production employs 200 people, 70% women, specialized in working with traditional felt-making technology. Management of all the production sections are women selected by technical and leadership skills. By providing learning and employment opportunities for our staff, we hope to empower women across our value chain from those who craft our products to those who wear them.
Labor reward system is based on a piece rate, which is calculated on productivity results of each staff. Wage of a craftsman comprises 30-40% of the final product cost. Most of the production staff has secondary school qualification. We teach the staff for the main felt-production skills, quality control measures and the main principles of sustainable production within the first 3 months of working with us. After the probation period each individual is allowed to choose the specific production section they find interesting to work with.
The suppliers of wool are small farmer from the mountainous regions of the country, such as Naryn and Issyk-Kul regions in Kyrgyzstan. By providing wool for production of felt items, about 2.5 thousand small farms are able to have additional income.
